Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed it constructed and repaired more than 14,000 kilometers of road during the first 9 months of the current fiscal year.
At the beginning of the year the Authority’s plan was to construct 15,000 kilometers of road and repair 1,800 kilometers. Thus far ERA has repaired 1,000 kilometers of road and constructed 13,000 kilometers of road. This, according to the Public Relations Director at ERA, Samson Wondimu, is 88 percent of the target.
The projects, both construction and repairing, costed ERA 15 billion Birr.
According to Ethiopian News Agency Humebo-Arbaminch, Lomame-debremarkos, Hageremariam-Yabelo and other routes have been opened for traffic.
Currently the Authority with a budget more than 25 million Birr plans to construct 1,500 kilometers of road in different parts of the country. Konso-Yabelo, Efeson-Mehal Meda, Morecha-Dimtu BItna and Sodo-Terecha-Omo are among the ongoing road construction projects.
