Ethiopia: Amhara Targets 2 million Quintals of Crop

Amhara State of Ethiopia targets to harvest more than 2 million quintals of crop during the belg season. The announcement was made by the State’s Agriculture Bureau.

Commenting on the issue, Solomon Kumlachew, crop production expert at the Bureau, said around 253 thousand square meters of land is expected to be cultivated during the season. Thus far half of this land is covered with crop, he added.

According to the expert South Wollo, North Wollo, North Shewa and Kemissie are areas in the State known for farming during the belg season. These areas use organic fertilizers while around 1.5 cubic meters of compost is estimated to be used by the whole State.

The rain is improving in amount and distribution. It is expected to create a better condition of farming for the remaining months of the season.
