Construction of 4 tunnels which are part of Meqele-Woldeya-Hara Gebeyehu railway line commenced, Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) noted. Upon completion the railway line will have 8 tunnels.

Engineer Temesgen Animaw, Project Manager of the railway project, explained the construction of the tunnels was being carried out day and night. The tunnels would have width of 4.7 meters to 7.9 meters, he furthered.

Track laying, on the other hand, would commence in few months, Dereje Tefera, Communication Affairs Head at ERC, explained.

According to ERC, the 216 railways project is going as per the schedule set and it has now reached 28 percent completion rate.
