Ethiopia: ERA Concluded 5.7 Billion Birr Agreement

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded 5.7 billion Birr agreement for the upgrade and administration of Neqemte – Bure Road of Ethiopia.

The agreement is concluded for the upgrade of the 257 kilometers gravel road to asphalt road. The agreement also includes administering and maintaining the road once the upgrade is done.

The construction is said to have three phases. The first phase, Neqemte – Anger – Andedo, and the third phase, Agamsa – Bure, are given to Spanish and Indian firm dubbed Meter ITNLS Joint Venture.

GMC Projects Indian Ltd. concluded an agreement with ERA for the second phase, Endode – Agamsa.

The agreements were signed by Araya Girmaye on ERA’s behalf. The construction is set to be completed in 3 years' time while the contractors have agreed 5 years for maintenance and administration of the roads.

According to EBC, the World Bank financed the project.
