Bangladesh Opens Embassy in Ethiopia

Bangladesh opened an Embassy in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. This is part of the Nation's attempt to strengthen ties with African countries.

Commenting on the development, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said the new mission would open newer avenues of cooperation. The Ministry added that the mission would be of particular importance with regard to peacekeeping.

According to Bangladesh News 24, the Embassy has gone operational since March 1 having Hanif Khan as charge d'affaires. M Monirul Islam is expected to join as the Ambassador by March 15.

Back in 1971, when Bangladesh became independence, Ethiopia was one of the first African countries to recognize the nation.

According to the Ministry, ever since then the two nations supported each other on common and mutual interest and at different international fora.
