Ethiopia: Berhanena Selam to Print Cheques

As of the coming year, Berhanena Selam Printing Enterprise (BSPE) will be printing cheques as of the making year, making it the first of its kind in Ethiopia and twelfth from Africa. In addition to this, the enterprise will start printing passports as well as cheque personalization.

Berhanena Selam had a discussion forum with Sudanese Currency Printing Press (SCPP) in the aim of collaborating and experience sharing on security printing. It was during this forum the enterprise announced about the new services for the next year.

SCPP is said to offer technical support for the enterprise.

According to the CEO of Berhanena Selam, Teka Abadi, the installation of cheque personalization machine is underway at a cost of 25 million Birr. The machine is being installed by a Swiss company dubbed KDA.

In the future, Berhanena Selam intends to print banknotes as well as automated teller machine (ATM) cards.
