Uchumi Supermarkets Ltd., Kenya’s only publicly traded retail chain, plans to expand to Ethiopia, according to its CEO Julius Kipng’etich.
Kipng’etich reportedly said the company could start operations in Ethiopia in three years. In addition to Ethiopia, Uchumi plans to expand its presence in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“Congo is a very interesting country and we could possibly extend our footprint there,” Kipng’etich told shareholders Wednesday in the Kenya, Nairobi.
