Close to 44,000 local and foreign tourists during the past six months have visited Lalibela churches found in the Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia, according to Lalibela City Officials.

Lalibela city has secured over 116 million Birr from tourists that visited the place. The amount showed a 26 million Birr increase when compared to the same period last year.

The amount does not include those who visited the churches during Ethiopian Christmas, the officials told Ethiopian News Agency.
