The historical town Aksum located in Tigray Regional State of Ethiopia has secured over 74 million Birr revenue from tourists in the past six months, according to its Culture and Tourism Bureau.
The revenue showed 10 percent increase from the same period last year.
Tekleweyni Tesfay, Public Relations Expert at Culture and Tourism Bureau, said the revenue was gained from 37,627 tourists including 9,214 foreigners.
Tewodros Abreha, Ethiopian Tourism Sustainable Development Project of Aksum Tourist Destination Coordinator, told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) the historical heritages have been renovated in the past five years.
It was learnt that the renovations were carried out at a cost of 98 million Birr to increase tourist number and protect the historical places.
Among the attractions of the historical town are obelisks of Aksum, ancient tombs, churches and historical heritages underground.
