The Addis Ababa City Administration Trade Bureau on December 31, 2015, has inked a deal with the three Oromia Cooperative Unions namely Maqi-Batu, Awash-Malka and Bacho for the supply of agricultural products, according to Ethiopian Herald.
Gizachew Ali, Bureau’s Head at the signing ceremony said the deal would satisfy customers demand by providing agricultural products bought directly from the Unions. He said “we concluded the agreement with the cooperative unions to address shortage of consumer goods.”
He also noted that the agreement will shorten the market chain between producers and consumers. Therefore, such mechanism would limit inflation by reaching the consumer at the time of shortage of products.
Chala Gurrata, Maqi Cooperative Union Board Chairperson, said “the agreement is to supply fresh fruit and vegetables as well as seeds we produce.”
There are 131 cooperative unions that have currently established links with consumers via the Bureau.
