Somali Regional State of Ethiopia has inaugurated on January 5, 2016, Karemarda Sponge Factory built in Jigjiga town at a cost of 60 million Birr, Ethiopian News Agency reported.
Abdi Mohammed, Somali Regional State Chief Administrator, speaking at the inauguration ceremony said the factory is jointly owned by Diasporas of Somali Region and local investors.
He said the government would enhance its support to the investors of the region who wants to build factories.
Isman Gafun, Manager of Karemarda Sponge Factory, said the factory has a capacity to produce over 1,000 types of sponge products per day. He also noted that it has created 400 permanent and temporary jobs.
A capital of 6.6 billion Birr has been invested over the past four years in the Somali Region through 481 local and Ethiopian Diasporas investors, it was indicated.
