Ethiopian Company Inaugurates Oilseed Processing Plant

Zablon Trading Private Limited Company opened a processing plant for oilseed and pulses on 1 October 2011.  The plant is expected to clean and sort over 1,200 quintals of export standard oil seeds and pulses every year.

The company has exported oil seeds and pulses valued at approximately 5 million dollars, last year and is planning to raise its exports to 25 million this year said Biniam Bedewi Owner and Managing director of Zablon.  He said that they hope to achieve this through developing human resource and creating stronger links with local banks.

Zablon has exported its oilseeds and pulses to countries such as the United States, Turkey, China and Israel and has contracts for its cleaned produce according to the owner.

The processing plant was set up on 10,000m2 in Adama city at a cost of 30 million birr. It includes a couple of ware houses with the capacity to house 140 thousand and 60 thousand quintals. It is estimated that the machines in the factory can clean 60 quintals an hour. The plant’s other amenities include, a reception center, conference hall, worker’s cafeteria, laboratory, inspection and control room as well as a fumigation center. 50 full time and 30 part time workers are employed by the plant.

Zablon’s future plans include setting up a plant for ferrous iron and expanding the market for green mung beans. The company which was formed two years ago also imports Eurotrakker trucks to sell on the local market.
