ERA to Build Additional Axel Load Control on Trunk Roads in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) revealed plans to begin constructing three new axle load control on trunk roads and replacing eleven others with new ones in February with the money granted by Japanese government.

Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) grant is expected to revamp Ethiopia’s axle load control system and facilitate the process of load measurement, thereby contributing to the prevention of road damage and facilitation of traffic.

Japan has granted close to five million USD for ERA to replace the old ones and build new Axel Load Control on Trunk Roads in two regions; in Quiha area of Tigray and in Tik and Woreta of Amhara.

The eleven replacements of Axel Load Control on Trunk Roads will take place in Kombolcha, Dengego, Semera, Awash, Mojo, Shashemene, Jimma, Alemgena, Holleta, Sululta and Sendafa regions.

Araya Girmay, Director General of ERA, on Thursday, November, 26, 2015, appreciated JICA’s support to improve Axle Road Control systems on trunk roads in Ethiopia.

The plan, called Project for Improvement of Axle Load Control on Trunk Roads, targets to improve the efficiency of axle load control, ensure transparency and efficiency at stations.
