Ethio-Djibouti Railway Line to Transport Wheat from Port of Djibouti as of Today

Ethiopian Railways CorporationThe new Ethio-Djibouti railway line will as of today, November 20, 2015, begins transporting wheat from port of Djibouti to Adama town, Oromia Regional State, Fana Broadcasting Corporate reported.

The additional wheat, the government of Ethiopia has purchased for drought affected people, has reached Port Djibouti.

The Ethio-Djibouti railway project is being constructed in two sections; Sebeta-Meiso and Meiso-Dewele.
The Ethiopian Railways Corporation states 93.5 percent of the project has been completed.

Ninety one percent of the Dewele-Negad route in Djibouti is completed and 50 percent of installation of power cable is completed as well.

It was indicated that after five months the railway goes fully operational. Nevertheless, the railway will today start transporting the wheat purchased from the Port of Djibouti to deal with the drought.

The 656 km Ethio-Djibouti railway line is under construction with an outlay of USD 3.4 billion.
