The amount of revenue Ethiopia has garnered from oil seeds, cereals and other products in the first quarter of this year has lowered by 41.3 percent compared to the same period past year, Ministry of Trade reported.
Mulugeta Mohammed, Crop Market Directorate Director at the Ministry, said Ethiopia has planned to export over 51 thousand tons of oil seeds, cereals and other products, yet it has exported 38.79 tons this year. It has garnered USD 52.35 million, he stated.
The exported amount was 37 percent, below the amount exported the same time last year, he added.
The decreased amount of revenue was due to high rainfall on Ethiopia’s sesame product in the past farming season. This resulted in low quality of the product. The low demand for sesame in the international market in the past few months has contributed to the decreased amount of export from Ethiopia, Mulugata elaborated.
