Black Rhino Eyeing Investments in Ethiopia’s Power Industry

Black Rhino, owned by funds of U.S. investment company Blackstone Group, said on Wednesday October 28, 2015, that it is eyeing investments in Ethiopia’s power generation sector.

Ethiopia’s power industry would be its second extensive infrastructure involvement following the framework agreements signed in September to construct a fuel pipeline between Djibouti and Ethiopia.

Shilesh Muralidhara, a Johannesburg-based developer at Black Rhino, said: “We are currently assessing other opportunities in Ethiopia such as hydro and wind. That is something we are very interested in and engaged in."

"We want to be here for the long term," he told Reuters.

Ethiopia has the potential to generate 45,000 megawatts of hydropower, according to experts.
