Ethiopian Sugar Corporation said Kessem Sugar Factory is to start regular sugar production by next week.
Kessem Sugar Factory, situated in Afar Regional State of Ethiopia, was under trial production.
When the factory goes fully operational, it will produce 260,000 tons of sugar and 30,000 cubic meters of ethanol annually.
In addition, Wonji, Metehara and Fincha that have been under renewal are going to commence production by next week.
According to Zemedkun Tekle, Communication Director of the Corporation, these factories will raise the supply of sugar.
Planning to become one of world’s 10 biggest exporters of sugar, Ethiopia has started constructing 10 new factories as of 2011.
