Ethiopia Plans to Secure Three Billion USD from Mining Sector

The Ministry of Mines plans to earn three billion USD profit a year at the GTP II period from mineral and gas exports, The Reporter reported.

The plan was disclosed when the Ministry and its employees are discussing on the GTP II at the Ministry from October 1-5, 2015. On the sideline of the meeting Tolossa Shagi told The Reporter the amount would be secured from gold, potash, tantalum minerals and gas exports.

Tolossa said: “We hope to start gas export from the Ogaden region by 2018. At least two companies would start potash export from the Afar region in the second GTP term.”

KEFI Minerals, MIDROC Gold, Ascom and Ezana Mining are to start new gold mining projects soon in various parts of Ethiopia.

Ethiopia had secured 2.4 billion USD from mineral exports in GTP I (2011-15).
