PPPDS of Ethiopia Plans to Centralize Its Services

The Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service (PPPDS) plans to centralize procurement services it provides in the GTP II period, The Daily Monitor reported.

PPPDS faces both internal and external challenges, Solomon Betre, Business Procurement Director at the PPPDS said. Lack of procurement implementation capacity, follow-up activities and limited number of staff are the internal challenges, he pointed out. He continued, negligence of suppliers to offer equipment as per the specifications, limited capital, facility and experience are among the external challenges.

Thus, “restricting our service provision mechanism will be the main deed we are planning to execute in GTP II.” Solomon said.

PPPDS, to deal with the aforementioned challenges, needs to execute centralization of procurement strategy, Solomon stated.

PPPDS majorly procures strategic items like cement, palm oil, wheat, Bitumen/Asphalt Concrete and concrete metal for public bodies.
