Kessem Sugar Factory said, after being fully operational plans to produce 1.5 million quintal sugar a year, Walta Information Center reported.
Director of Ethiopian Sugar Corporation Shiferaw Jarso said Kesssem, which had been under trial production as of May, had been crushing 60 thousand quintal sugar cane a day. The factory has an installed capacity of crushing 100 thousand quintals of sugarcane a day, yet this will not be realized until its sugarcane plantation commences full production.
Kessem is constructed in the Afar Regional State of Ethiopia and will utilize sugarcane plantation found on 20 thousand hectares of land.
Shiferaw also noted the dam that is being constructed for the sugar plantation is about to be completed.
