Ethiopia to Commence Manufacturing Automobiles for the First Time

Ethiopian Power Engineering Industry (EPEI) said Ethiopia is to start manufacturing automobiles and military hardware.

Major Assefa Yohannes, EPEI General Manager, said EPEI is going to commence production in the coming two months.

EPEI is a subsidiary company to Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC).

Ethiopia has only 587,400 vehicles on the road, thus, needs more automobiles, Ministry of Transport states.
Two persons per 1,000 people have vehicles in Ethiopia.

Situated in Mekelle, Tigray Regional State, EPEI aims to manufacture various kinds of engines for light and heavy duty cars and tractors as well, Major Assefa noted.

The factory is going to manufacture quality engines of the Euro-three to Euro-five emissions standards, Major Assefa added.
