AAB&G Company Undertaking an Expansion Project

Addis Ababa Bottle & Glass (AAB&G) S.C. is carrying out an expansion project with the cost of 1.1 billion Birr to meet the growing demand, Addis Fortune reported.

AAB&G, co-owned by Ethiopian and Chinese investors, is facing rising demand specifically from the brewery industry.

The expansion takes place on 80,000 square meters of area in its premises near Mickey Leland condominium along Ambo Road. The project has three phases.

A feasibility study that was conducted before the expansion of the project indicates Ethiopia needs 265 million bottles per year.

Semen Bekele, Plan and Information Service Head at the Factory, said a single beer factory demands 14 million bottles, which the factory could not serve. Currently, AAB&G delivers bottles to BGI and St. George Beer.

Moreover, it supplies bottles for cosmetics companies and agro processing plants.

AAB&G is the first glass factory in Ethiopia. Now, there are Ethio Hanssam International Plc and Daylight Applied Technologies.

According to the Customs data report, Ethiopia had imported 73,400 tons of glass in 2014 with the cost of 1.2 billion Birr.
