The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) said the Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit is to begin operation the coming Sunday, September 20, 2015.

Dr. Getachew Bertu, Ethiopian Railways Corporation CEO, at the discussion held with stakeholders yesterday, September 15, 2015, said the Light Rail will begin operation from the route Georgis via Abinet to Kaliti.

The cost of travelling for four km is two Birr and it is four Birr for the whole trip to Kaliti, the CEO noted.
The Light Rail had been tested in the last three months. It had met 99 percent safety measures and what has been required by the international standard, it was learnt.

The Ayat-Legahar will be open for traffic in October 2015, sources indicated.
