Thirty-eight hotels in Addis Ababa were awarded five to one star, in the rating going on for the last few months in association with the Ministry of Culture and World Tourism Organization.
From the eligible 123 hotels to the rating, 3 got five star, 11 four, 13 three, 10 two and one awarded one star.
31 hotels did not submit documents related to emergency exits, thus did not pass the grading, five hotels fail the grading because of the absence of documents related to proper hygiene service and 21 did not pass as well due to the inability to submit both documents.
The rating followed WTO standard that includes providing hotel grading training for 53 experts. Therefore, 12 international criteria were used; bedrooms, bath and rest rooms, guest rooms, restaurants, kitchen, sustainability of the hotel service and employ treatment, among others.
The names of hotels and their grade will be revealed for the media following the completion of possible complaints by hotel owners regarding the rating, said Amin Abdulkadir Culture and Tourism Minister in a press conference held on August 8, 2015.
According to Binyam Bisrat President of the Addis Ababa Hotel Owners’ Association, the assessment will take place every three years, thus the association will have the opportunity to support those in the hospitality business to get high star levels by enhancing their capacity via training.
