Habesha Beer commenced distribution on July 11, 2015, to Debre Birhan, Addis Ababa and Adama markets, Addis Fortune reported.
Habesha has an initial production capacity of 650,000hl (hectoliters). The company is situated in Debre Birhan town on a 7.5 ha plot of land where it started construction in September 2013.
Habesha availed its products within 100 km radius of Addis Ababa starting this week, said Yonas Alemu, Habesha’s Commercial Director. A crate is being sold for 198 Birr.
Habesha has 220 permanent and 110 temporary employees currently.
There are nine beer companies in Ethiopia at this moment. And these companies have production capacity of 10.5 million hectoliters, stated Aklilu Kefyalew, Director of Beverage Processing Industries at the Ministry of Industry.
Ethiopia’s consumption of beer is eight liters and it is expected to reach nine of ten by the end of 2015/16, he added.
