The Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) awarded certificates and trophies to top tax payers, 17 stakeholders and 10 media houses on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), The Reporter reported.
The ceremony was organized by the large taxpayer’s branch office of ERCA.
ERCA has recognized 48 prominent tax payer companies in Ethiopia, of which seven were either under the Midroc Group or its subsidiaries: Midroc Gold Mine PLC, EthioAgriCeft PLC, Dashen Bank SC, Modern Building Industries PLC, Ries Engineering, Moha Soft Drinks Industry SC and National Oil Ethiopia (NOC) PLC.
According to ERCA, amount of annual tax returns was not the sole criteria to give acknowledgement to these companies but the companies were acknowledged for proper compliance with the customs clearances procedures, regular issuance of Z-reports, regular attendance of stakeholder meetings.
The ceremony is the first after the corruption crackdown and imprisonment of top officials of ERCA two years before.
ERCA’s Director General Beker Shale as well as thousands of people representing the business community have attended the ceremony.
