Five Addis Ababa Taxi Associations formed a transport to provide city bus service on the main routes of the city, according to Capital.
The share company need to expend on the 30 percent of the buses’ cost and the rest 70 percent is going to be covered with government loan. Each bus costs between 1.5 million and 4 million Birr.
The share company is named Misrak Chorra and is formed by Zebra, Addis Hiwot, Tsehaye, Nesser and Belen Taxi Associations.
Zerihun Desalegne, CEO of the share company, told Capital, “We will import 150 buses soon but before that we need to convince many taxi owners to join the new company” he added.
There are more than 20, 000 taxis on duty in Addis Ababa this time. The government contemplates on to shifting the minibuses to the peripheries of Addis.
According to Addis Ababa City Roads and Transport Bureau, the shift was needed as minibuses are not enough to accommodate the big passenger load. They were not able to minimize the transport problem and traffic congestion.
