Ethiopia: FCA Realized GTP Targeted Goals

Federal Cooperative Agency said it has met the targeted goals of GTP I period.

Usman Serur, Director General of the Agency told Walta Information Center (WIC) that the Agency planned to establish 59, 000 primary cooperatives, but surpassed the target and established 65, 058 primary cooperatives across the country.

The cooperatives have 12 million members and 14 billion birr surmounting the targeted goal of 11 million cooperative members with 12 billion Birr capital.

He further elaborated, 3.5 billion Birr was saved by the members in the past four years and 11 months period.

The primary cooperatives offer 240 items of basic commodities at competitive price for local consumers, Usman furthered.

Job opportunities have been created for 181, 133 citizens by these cooperatives.

The Agency plans to increase the capacity and the number of cooperatives in GTP II period.
