Ethiopia: Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway to Begin Testing in October

Ethiopian Railways Corporation said testing of an electrified railway from Addis Ababa to Djibouti’s port will start in October.

The corporation is going to announce tender for a management contract for the 656 kilometer link that should be fully operational by the end of the year, spokesman Dereje Teferra said over phone on Monday June 15, 2015.

Diesel trains can be used on the track that was finished last week while power lines are installed, he said. The line secured most of the fund, about $3 billion credit from the Export-Import Bank of China and built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. and China Railway Group Ltd.
