Ethiopia, Kuwait Concluded Loan Agreement

Ethiopia and Kuwait concluded loan agreement worth 6.5 million KD on June 16, 2015 to fund a clean and sustainable water project in the town of Aksum, Northern Ethiopia, according to Ethiopian News Agency.

The project intends to provide clean and sustainable water supply via construction of water supply and treatment from Maychew River, about 30km south of Aksum.

Construction of dam, reservoir, water treatment plant, generators, transformers, pumps and upgrading of existing road leading to the dam site are parts of the project.

Ahmed Shide, State’s Minister for Finance and Economic Development stated Kuwait is extending its hands in terms of finance to support Ethiopia’s road, airport, energy and water.

At present, Kuwait is assisting four ongoing projects with 110 million USD.
