National Poultry Training Center was inaugurated on June 9, 2015 in Bishoftu, Debrezeit, according to Addis Fortune.
The government invested four million Birr for the establishment and the equipment cost worth 25,000 Euros was covered by the Dutch government and Holland –Africa Poultry Partners (HAPP).
HAPP is a partnership of companies, NGOs and knowledge institutes from the Netherlands with an interest in the international poultry market.
According to HAPP’s website, its activity in Ethiopia includes “knowledge seminars about commercial and sustainable poultry farming, practical training sessions, set up of training and demonstration farm, incoming and outgoing trade missions and participation in Ethiopian poultry trade.”
Gebreegziabher Gebreyohannes (PhD), State Minister for Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture, Lidi Remmelzwaal, Ambassador of the Netherlands and Fantahun Mengistu (PhD), Director of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) attended the inauguration ceremony.
The center has 35 trainers including the Netherlands. Courses on poultry feeding and feeds, Health Management, Hatchery Management and poultry Equipment Management extend from one to three months. Registration commenced the day before inauguration.
The center plans is to train 16,000 people a year and deliver 3.2 million chickens to small and medium poultry enterprises within five years.
