Addis Ababa and its surrounding Area Electric Power Distribution Master Plan Study Project come to its final stage, according to Ethiopian News Agency.
The distribution master plan is intended for 20 years and would become operational in 2016.
The master plan is being undertaken by Parsons Brinckkerhoff (PB) with 3.5 million USD to meet the fast growing demand of electricity of Addis Ababa and its environments.
The project is going to be carried out in three phases which cover 12 Woredas in Oromia Regional State and 10 sub-cities in Addis Ababa.
The study has pointed out areas that beg intervention and most of the substations are saturated and serving beyond their limit, General Manager of PB Oona Nanka-Bruce Parsons said.
CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power, Azeb Asnake said, out of the total electricity generated by Ethiopia, Addis Ababa and its surroundings consume 60 percent.
Currently, Ethiopia is generating 8,000 MW.
