Ethiopia: Dangote’s Potash Exploration Proposal Approved by Ministry of Mines

Akilo Dangote’s proposal to acquire exploration license for potash mineral in Afar Regional State, Ethiopia is approved by Ministry of Mines, according to The Reporter.

“Previously, they had submitted a permit letter request. Since we proved he is serious to do business here and is investing millions of dollars, we decided to approve the license requested. We have conferred with Aliko Dangote that he is ready to erect similar plant for potash mining,” Tolossa Shagi, State Minister of Mines said.

Dangnote is the fourth company to request for exploration license in Ethiopia.

Ahmed Abitew, Minister of Industry told The Reporter that Dangote is at the early stage of feasibility study.
Since 2010, Dangote has been in the business of sugarcane farming and sugar refinery, according to the Dangote Group profile. The Group owns a refinery plant in Nigeria with a production capacity of 1.4 million MT of refined sugar per annum.
