After the completion of the first phase of the project, the factory started grinding sugarcane a week ago, Kessem Sugar Factory Development Project said.

In an exclusive interview with Walta Information Center (WIC), General Manager of the project Worku Chekol said the factory is under construction with Birr 1.2 billion and is among the new projects planned to meet sugar demand.

Kessem Sugar Factory is expected to produce 6,000-7,000 quintals of sugar a day, he said. He furthered, 13 thousand hectares of land has been cultivated for sugarcane in the first phase of the project.

The project is expected to create job opportunities for four thousand citizens, the Manager said.
