Ethiopia: Awash Melkasa to Commence Hydrogen Peroxide Production

awashmelkassaAwash Melkasa Aluminum Sulphate & Sulfuric Acid S.C. is to commence production of hydrogen peroxide in June 2015 with an investment of Birr 234 million, according to Addis Fortune.

The factory is situated on 9,000 square meters at Awash Melkasa. Awash Melkasa is a state owned company and produces 13,000 tons of Aluminum Sulphate and 17,000 tons of Sulphuric Acid yearly for the production of leather, car batteries, cotton and water treatment.

The company contracted with Nuberg Engineering Limited for the construction of the hydrogen peroxide manufacturing plant. The factory is going to have a capacity to produce 4,500 tons of hydrogen peroxide a year.

According to the study by Industrial Project Service, on average, the demand for hydrogen peroxide in Ethiopia amounts to 900 tons a year. Even in the 2014 budget year, 678 tons of hydrogen peroxide has been imported, according to Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority.

Hydrogen peroxide is used for the production of textile (a major input), pulp, paper, milk treatment and cosmetics.
