Ethiopia: Largest Woven Bag Factory to Commence Production in May

Chinese company, Shaoxing Li Enterprise, is to inaugurate a woven polypropylene bag factory in May, 2015, according to Addis Fortune.

The construction of the factory consumed Birr 520 Million and is designed to manufacture 27,000 tons of bags per year. The factory rests on 16 hectares of land in Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia.

The factory’s initial production capacity is 7,000 tons per year and the raw materials used for production are entirely imported from the Middle East. The factory produces ordinary sacks, jumbo bags, hand-bags and shopping bags among others.

The factory will be the biggest large-scale woven bag factory in Ethiopia when it commences production, according to Yonas Abate (Eng.) Plastic & Rubber Industry Development Institute Director at the Ministry of Industry (MOI).

According to Yonas, there are 13 similar factories in Ethiopia with the combined annual output of 15,000 tons.
