Ethiopia: Experts Meet to Establish Groundwork for Free Trade Area in Africa

Experts convened on May 8, 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to do the ground work for Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA), Ethiopian News Agency reported (ENA).

The meeting targets to see preparatory issues and reach on consensus on documents vital for the CFTA negotiations which will be held in June 2015.

Director of Trade and Industry with AUC Treasure Mphanga stated the CFTA is a crucial segment of the First Ten Year Implementation Plan of the Agenda 2063 and one of the head projects hastening the growth of intra-African trade.

The meeting aspires to realize the target of African leaders to form a functional free trade area which addresses the challenge of overlapping membership and establish sole FTA in Africa, Mphanga explained.

Experts, senior officials and African Ministers of Trade will consult on the establishment of Continental Free Trade Area during the seven-day meeting.
