Japan Grants 100 Million Birr for Ethiopia’s Truck Quality Control

jica-logoAgreement for “the Project for improvement of Axle Load Control on Truck” was signed between Japanese Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Kazuhiro Suzuki, and State Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia, H.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, for a total amount of one hundred million Birr (USD 5 million).

Even if roads are essential for logistics in Ethiopia, overloaded trucks has become severely problematic in causing damage to roads and dangerous traffic accidents, according to a press release Japanese Embassy in Ethiopia sent to Walta Information Center.

The project will become operational using state-of-the-art Japanese measurement machines that help reduce traffic jams by measuring a vehicle’s load instantly (10 seconds). It is expected to enhance the logistics condition on main roads in Ethiopia.

Japan has committed itself in boosting Ethiopia’s infrastructure by constructing modern bridges, main roads and water supply facilities in the last few decades.
