Exporting Enterprises Exhibiting products Abroad

Ethiopian public Enterprises occupied in export trade are showing their products at international exhibitions and trade fairs, according to the Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency.

Wondafrash Assefa, Agency Corporate Director, told Ethiopian News Agency exporters participated in exhibitions and trade fairs held in Sweden, the US and Canada to explore new customers and set up marketing network. He also told Participation in international trade fairs will help in boosting the export trade sector.
Out of the targeted earning of the Agency, 66 percent which is 17.3 million USD was obtained during the first half of this fiscal year. Low productivity is one of the reasons for the low performance, it was mentioned.

Ethiopian Mineral Development Share Company, Ethiopian Fruits and Vegetable Marketing Share Company, Bahir Dar and Kombolcha Textile factories and National Alcohol and Liquor Factory are the public enterprises which export their products.

Ethiopian Fruits and Vegetable Marketing Share Company earned more than 537,000 USD from the export of about 10,000 quintals over the past six months, according to its CEO, Mengistu Kebede.

Ethiopian Mineral Development Share Company obtained more than five million USD from the export of 71 tons of Tantalum to America and China over the past six months, according to the General Manager of the company.

According to the Corporate Communication Director, 14.4.million USD was secured from the 22 privatized textile and garment, leather and shoes, alcohol and agro-processing factories.

Europe and Asia are the major export destinations of Ethiopian public enterprises.

The Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervises Agency has earned more than 13 billion birr by privatizing more than 300 public enterprises over the past six years.
