US Lifted Flying Ban to Ethiopia

The prohibition on US carriers and commercial operators not to fly on some parts of Ethiopia has been lifted by the United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

The prohibition was imposed in Ethiopia’s airspace north of 12 degrees north latitude. It came to effect back in 2000 during the Ethiopia and Eritrea border conflict, the FAA noted.

Lift of the ban was announced by the FAA on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 and the announcement was published in the Federal register Vol. 80, No. 23.

The publication read, “This action removes the prohibition against certain flights within the territory and airspace of Ethiopia contained in Special Federal Aviation Regulation, (SFGAR) no. 87.”
