Ethiopia’s sixth brewery company, Raya Brewery S.C, is going to be inaugurated by President Mulatu Teshome (PhD) in the coming month.
The official inauguration is expected to take place on February 14 and 15, 2015 at Bohera Mountain, Tigray State. The brewery production plant is said to have an annual production capacity of 5.6 Million Hectoliters.
It was back in 2010 Raya got established having notable figures as its founding shareholders. This includes Tsadikan Gebretinsay (Lt. General), former army chief of staff, and Ambachew Abreha, former head of Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise (ESLSE). However, according to Fortune the total number of shareholders has now reached 2,441.
The shareholders have also established a new transport company dubbed RaAz Transport S.C. for the purpose of transporting the products of the factory to different parts of Ethiopia.
Projection for the annual growth of Ethiopia’s demand for beer is said to be 15 percent. This figure, according to Fortune, is much higher than the rest of the African continent which is five percent.
In the coming Ethiopian fiscal year, Ethiopia’s total annual production capacity is going to be 12.2 hectoliters of beer. This is going to be served by six breweries.
