Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) certified 14 bottled water brands that are manufactured in Ethiopia. This is out of the total 33 bottled water brands which are produced in Ethiopia.

It was in August 2014 Ministry of Trade (MoTr) ordered bottled mineral waters secure a certificate in five months time.

When the Ministry made this announcement, only six bottled waters met the the quality standard specifications set by the enterprise. They were Yes, Aqua Addis Abyssinia, Eden, Origin and SPA mineral water.

According to Fortune, quality standard specification on bottled mineral waters is among 57 products on which the enterprise put mandatory standards.

The standard set by the Enterprise also set the final products and the production process to comply with the quality standard it has put.

The remaining 19 brands are in the process of laboratory testing and inspection. By next week the Enterprise expects to finish testing the products’ quality, and approve.

The Enterprise is also assessing new bottled waters in the market that did not yet apply for quality assessment and inspection to the ECAE.
