Our company Hybrid Designs is pleased to announce to have developed a software and launched a new SMS system which connects customers automatically with taxi drivers.
The product, which is dubbed RIDE, was launched a week ago and got a warm welcome even from FDRE’s Foreign Minister, Tewodros Adhanom.
The system will connect a taxi customer with a taxi driver in 7 minutes.
Our product is first of its kind for Addis Ababa and it is the city’s first automated system which controls the fleet of transportation systems. We expect this to be the beginning of a new phase in Ethiopian transport industry.
The system requires taxi drivers to text on 8812 information regarding where they usually operate. In other words, we want taxi drivers to send us where their cars are often parked as they are waiting for customers.
On the other hand, taxi customers will text on 8202 regarding their where about. Then the system will automatically send the taxi customer a message asking him to conform if he actually is there or willing to work. Following this step, RIDE will send an SMS to the taxi driver if he is available to give service to the customer. If the taxi driver conforms to give the service he will receive the customer’s number and he will call the customer to make arrangements.
Nevertheless, one thing that needs to be noted here is that if the taxi driver does not send a conformation message in a minute a new message will be sent to the next taxi driver.
During the inauguration Hybrid Designs PLC’s CEO said; “We have started with small contract taxi drivers now but we are warming up. Once we prove our concept which is connecting a customer with a nearby driver in less than 7 mins, we will extend the system to minibus taxi, Bisheftu bus, City bus and why not a plane if needed.”
