Addis International Catering, which is a subsidiary of MIDROC Group, joined the Ethiopian catering services and has commenced service.
It was four years ago in 2008 with a capital of USD 25 Million that the catering firm was established. Its aim was providing catering services for international airways. It initially secured a license for bonded warehouse, international food manufacturing and aircraft cleaning services.
Then the company went operational on the same year on 6000 square meters plot with a capacity of producing 15,000 meals per day.
However, according to the Chief Operation Officer (COO), Thomas Jamtander, the demand was below the capacity of the firm which forced Addis to acquire a domestic catering license.
After securing the license the company has been in the process of starting domestic services and launched the service three weeks ago, Makida Yohannes, general manager for sales and customer service of Addis International Catering, explained.
Addis currently serves eight airways; Emirates, Egypt Air, Qatar Airways, Kenya Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Yemen Airways, Turkish Airlines and Fly Duba. It serves these companies with an average capacity of serving 1000 meals per day.
Now it has secured a new license it will be able to serve embassies, NGOs, private and events.
Since late November, Addis has been providing catering services for seven different organizations.”
“In addition to catering for events, we are on the way to opening a coffee chain in Addis Ababa, and we have already identified its location, to be open starting early new year in Bole area, along the African Avenue,” says Jamtander.
According to Makida the coffee shops are going to be serving their cuitomers with beverages, bakery and pastry products.
