Ethiopia’s central bank, National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), is going to serve banks and financial institutions with a one day workshop that is going to revolve around digital financial service.

The workshop is going to be on Tuesday, December 19, 2014 at the African Union (AU) hall and its theme will be ‘How to Operationalise Digital Financial Services, Mobile and Agent Banking within the Ethiopia Context’.

The event is said to bring together banks as well as financial institutions together with presentations and training on digital financial system which is going to be done by experts from international banks.

Other stakeholders that are expected on the workshop are policy makers, financial institutions, government stakeholders and the banking sector’s development partners.

It was two years back in 2012 NBE promulgated Regulation of Mobile & Agent Banking Services directive. Following the directive tow banks, Dashen Bank S.C. and United Bank S.C., took their agent banking licenses and are in the process of launching the service.

In addition to this, other digital and electronic banking systems, such as Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) and internet banking, are expanding in the country.
