Ethiopia Signed USD 176 Million Loan and Grant

Ethiopia’s executive organ concluded an aggregate of USD 176.87 Million loan and grant with the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (ADB).

USD 75 Million was extended to the government by the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) branch for the expansion work the government is going to undertake for the opening Pastoral Livelihoods Resilience Project.

The Project is aimed to develop a lasting solution to drought problems, build resilience and improve livelihoods of the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in cross-border drought prone areas of the horn of Africa region.

On the other hand ADB gave a grant of USD 9.77 Million and a loan of USD 92.1 Million. This money is said to be used for the finance of implementing One Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Program (WASH) program. The program is designed to increase access to improved water supply, and sanitation and hygiene.

As per the water, sanitation and hygiene targets, which Ethiopia has adopted via “Universal Access Plan”, it aims to reach 98.5pc and 100pc access to safe water and sanitation, respectively, by 2015.
