Ethiopia: Ethio Telecom Looking for Contractors for Its HQ

ethiotelecomEthio Telecom, the state owned telecome monopole, is looking for contractors that will design and constructs its new seven building headquarters. Ethio Telecom plans to construct the headquarters at its IT Park on a 37,000 square meters plot of land.

The firm made a tender announcement on October 20, 2014 on the state owned newspaper, The Ethiopian Herald. According to the tender, the headquarters is going to have five separate 10-storey buildings with two basements. In addition to this there are going to be two separate multi-complexes buildings behind the five towers.

The structural drawings were done by BET Consultancy Architects and Engineers Plc three months ago.

According to Fortune, BET is the same firm that worked on the head quarter designs of Ethiopian Airlines in 2010 and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) in 2009.

The Bid document stipulates participating contractors should meet minimum requirements of having an annual turnover of U.S. $ 200 Million for five consecutive years, with experience in similar construction projects of office buildings.

With regard to design works, bidders should meet minimum requirement of U.S. $ 10 Million and 40 Million Birr of annual turnover in the past five years. They also need to show they have worked as prime designer in the construction of at least two building projects costing a minimum of U.S. $ 160 Million.

For the purpose of scoring highly in the technical evaluation, interested contractors should directly own 25 dump trucks, 11 excavators, five cranes, 11 loaders and other construction equipment
