Ethiopia: 300 Buses Worth 1.1 Billion for Addis

300 new buses are going to be introduced to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, in five months time to ease transportation problems.

A contract that is worth 1.1 Billion Birr was concluded between Tiblest Asgedom, Deputy Head of Addis Ababa Roads and Transport Office and Colonel Shegaw Mulugeta, Marketing Director at the Metals and Engineering Corporation, for the purchase of the 300 buses.

The buses are said to be equipped with GPS, cameras and other hi-tech gear and each of these buses will cost Addis Ababa Roads and Transport Office 3.6 Million Birr.

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, commuters will pay for services of the buses and a new office is being set up to handle the administration of the service.

Number of buses in the capital city is going to double and reach 600, it was indicated.
