Ethiopia: ERA Concluded Two Agreements worth Two Billion Birr

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded road construction and upgrade agreements with two contractors for the different roads in Oromia State and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples State (SNNP).

The road projects are said to cover a total of 111.3 Kilometers and cost 2.15 Billion Birr. Out of the total outlay, 1.2 Billion is going to be covered by a loan secured from the World Bank, while the balance from the coffers of the government.

The first project is in SNNP State and it is going to be 48.3 Kilometers long. This project is given to Hunan Huanda Road and Bridge Corporation of China. The agreement between ERA and Hunan dictates the project will cost 949 Million Birr and it should be finalized in 29 months.

The other project is upgrade work for Ambo - Walliso road in Oromia State, which is 63 Kilometers. This project is awarded to two Spanish companies working in joint venture.

The road upgrade project is said to consume 1.2 Billion Birr, which the Authority secured from a loan it got from the World Bank.
