Diageo’s Meta Abo Brewery disclosed it is on the final stages of its U.S. $ 1 Billion expansion work that will enable it in a few months time to double its production.
Managing Director, Francis Agbonlahor, noted the factory’s growth shall be done in line with supporting the community. He said this during the launching program of the company’s new community development program that cost the factory 3.5 Million Birr.
The Managing Director said the investment made into the Sebeta community is in line with Meta Abo’s strategy of growth, commitment and sustainability.
He furthered, this year Meta Abo will provide an independent water supply line to the community around the factory.
On his part, Sebeta Town’s Mayor, Ejersa Donssa, paraised Meta Abo’s effort to increase its social responsibility as it successfully maintains its growth and expansion. The Mayor furthered, “We will keep our way forward together”.
In addition to this the brewery launched a scholarship program in the memory of its late employee who died of a car accident a few months back. The Meseret Mamo Scholarship grants five to ten university students the money they need to cover their expense.
According to Agbonlahor Meta Abo is also part of the local barley sourcing program that incorporates 6000 smallholder farmers along with Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) and Oromiya Agricultural Bureau. Via this program the brewery tries to play a role in fostering agriculture.
